When you are taking notes from reading, it is important that you are clear about the purpose of the notes you are producing. Think about what you want to get from your reading and why you are making notes. That will help you decide how much detail do you need to read, and how much detail will you need in your notes?
When taking notes from reading it is tempting to write down a lot of information. 
This is time consuming any will not necessarily serve your purpose.
